Introducing our celebrity ambassador – Johnny Nelson MBE

The MBST Medical UK team regularly work with amateur and professional athletes who seek help for their injuries and pain. This includes retired boxing legend Johnny Nelson, our first celebrity ambassador, who was made an MBE in King Charles III’s 2023 New Year’s Honours list.

Here are additional key takeaways on celebrity ambassador Johnny Nelson’s MBST story:

  • As longest reigning cruiserweight champ, Nelson is a true boxing legend, now an expert pundit and mentor to young boxers after retirement.
  • Debilitating long-term back issues almost forced Nelson to undergo surgery and quit his fitness regimen before discovering MBST.
  • MBST treatments for Nelson’s back and hand injuries allowed him to avoid risky surgery and regain a pain-free active life.
  • Nelson credits MBST with potentially prolonging his boxing career by 3-4 more years if he had known about it sooner.
  • As ambassador, Nelson is an ardent advocate for MBST’s ability to help all people with sports injuries, joint pain and mobility issues.
  • Nelson continues collaborating with MBST’s health experts at public events to share his first-hand experience of MBST’s transformative results.
  • MBST Medical UK plans more educational events around the UK featuring Nelson to spread awareness of achieving a pain-free life.
Johnny Nelson MBE

Johnny was awarded the order of chivalry for his commitment and services to boxing & to young people. Johnny remains devoted to the sport, mentoring young boxers and helping prisoners improve their prospects upon release. He also acts as an ambassador for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity and MBST Medical UK.

The 56-year-old turned to us for help when his back pain was becoming unbearable, and our team was able to get him back to fighting fit.

Now Johnny is our first-ever celebrity ambassador who can testify to how life-changing the MBST technology is.

A True Boxing Icon

With a career spanning 20 years, Sheffield-born Ivanson ‘Johnny’ Nelson earned himself the nickname The Entertainer for his impressive performance inside the ring. As the official longest reigning cruiserweight world champion of all time, Johnny held the World Boxing Organisation strap from 1999 to 2005 and successfully defended his title against a record-breaking 13 opponents before retiring.

Not content with just one boxing achievement, Nelson held the British Cruiserweight title twice between 1989 and 1997 and then the European Cruiserweight title twice between 1990 and 1998.

Johnny stepped down from the world of competitive boxing in 2006 due to a knee injury, but he remains dedicated to the sport. For the past 16 years, Johnny has been a boxing pundit for popular sports channels and regularly features in high-profile matches and events.

As an expert and regular ringside face, he has interviewed some of the biggest names in the modern sport, including Mike Tyson, Anthony Joshua, Floyd Mayweather, Chris Eubank, Tony Bellew and Tyson Fury.

Enduring debilitating injuries

Although Nelson has hung up his gloves professionally, he continued to stay fit and active until a back injury threatened to stop his love of sport and fitness. He has spoken publicly about how his injuries impacted his physical and mental health. Once it became impossible to ignore, Johnny faced painful surgery, so he reached out to Oakwood MBST – with clinics in Sheffield and Bingham – to help.

After receiving MBST treatments on his back and hands, he’s fighting fit, staying active and back enjoying boxing from the side of the ring.

How MBST helped Johnny recover from injury

After suffering from his crippling back issue for many years, Johnny reached the point of desperation. He had tried everything. Then he finally discovered MBST therapy and found a solution that allowed him to return to a pain-free life.

“I’m over the moon to be MBST Medical UK’s first ambassador. When I first came across MBST, I didn’t believe the results could be possible. I had been in so much pain for at least 10 years, I was seeing different physios, I tried acupuncture, I tried every single thing going.

“The next step in my treatment plan was surgery, but I was able to avoid that thanks to the success of the MBST treatment. It’s mind-blowing. If I’d used it a year before I retired, it would’ve given me another three to four years boxing!”

Johnny is passionate about spreading the word so that more people know how MBST can help those suffering from pain and discomfort. He added:

“The beauty is, anyone can benefit. For active sportsmen and women, it will prolong your career, and there’s nothing artificial about it. It’s getting the best from your body without putting anything into it. But it’s not just for professional athletes, it’s a fantastic treatment for anyone struggling with injuries or joint or muscle pain.

“I haven’t had any additional treatment in a year and feel better than ever, it literally changed my life. Now, through my role as ambassador, we’ll be able to ensure that even more people know about it and benefit as I have.”

Johnny & the MBST team

As part of Men’s Health Awareness month last November, the MBST team hosted events with Johnny Nelson appearing alongside a panel of health and rehabilitation experts to explain how MBST therapy changed his life.

As a passionate advocate for how MBST brought him back from debilitating pain, he told those at At The Core Events in Bath and Primrose Hill his journey from the ring to a return to fitness.

We’ll be curating and attending plenty more events in the future, offering advice on health and injuries in sports and sharing thoughts as industry-leading movement and rehabilitation specialists. Keep your eyes peeled for MBST coming to an event near you! If you are interested in being invited to an event, please email Liz@mbst-therapy.co.uk to be added to the invites list.
